Rotherfield Village Pre-School has been at the heart of the village community since 1960. In 2011, we relocated to a purpose-built setting beside the recreation ground, made possible through the generous support of Rotherfield Parish Council and funding from the National Lottery.

Our outdoor area is a welcoming and versatile space that extends learning. We offer a free-flow approach for most of the day, allowing children to build on and apply what they have learned indoors while exploring outside. The space features a water wall, music wall, mud kitchen, sand pit, and designated areas with tuff trays to inspire creativity, exploration, and hands-on discovery.
Our pre-school children enjoy their own outdoor growing garden, giving them the opportunity to extend their learning beyond the indoor environment. They have access to a wide variety of plants and vegetables to grow and care for, helping them develop an understanding of how to nurture their surroundings. Gardening also supports their well
Our pre-school children enjoy their own outdoor growing garden, giving them the opportunity to extend their learning beyond the indoor environment. They have access to a wide variety of plants and vegetables to grow and care for, helping them develop an understanding of how to nurture their surroundings. Gardening also supports their wellbeing, encouraging responsibility, patience, and a connection with nature.

We are lucky to have access to a hidden woodland area, which we use as a rich outdoor learning environment. Here, children have the freedom to explore, take safe risks, and immerse themselves in nature, experiencing the world in a way that differs from a more traditional pre-school setting.

Rotherfield Scout Hall is next to our building and we have use of the hall for our external clubs, group circuits, team games, and fundraising events.

Our building looks out across farming land and open spaces. We have use of the fields directly next to our building, growing garden and hidden woodland.
In the summer months we use this space to enjoy picnic lunches and play.

Just across from our setting, we are fortunate to have the Rotherfield Recreation Ground, which includes a play park. This gives the children even more opportunities to climb, swing and bounce with their friends in a fun and relaxed environment, supporting their physical development and social skills.

We are based in the heart of Rotherfield Village, giving us wonderful access to a range of local community resources. You might spot us out on a village walk, enjoying a snack in the church grounds, or visiting the pigs beside the apple orchard as part of our learning adventures.
